Award in Professional Coaching
The Award in Professional Coaching is accredited by the Open College Network (OCN) and delivered through the Advance School of Coaching. It provides an introduction to the theory and practice of this growing and sought after profession.
Who is it for?
The Award in Professional Coaching is for Team leaders who are responsible for the performance of others and wish to develop their leadership style by introducing a coaching style of management. The Award is also suitable for individuals who wish to gain personal and professional satisfaction by helping others reach their goals, and may be the first step to becoming a Personal Performance coach.
The Award will equip the individual with a range of coaching skills as well as offering a progression route into the Certificate and Diploma in Professional Coaching.

Course overview
This course will equip you with the tools you need to develop individual performance in both personal coaching, or within your organisation. It will provide you with industry recognised coaching techniques, to enable you to inspire, motivate and develop others to maximise their potential.
This Award in Professional Coaching takes on average 3 months to complete. It comprises two full day workshops at Glasgow Caledonian University, as well as a distance-learning component. This provides flexibility to organise your learning schedule around personal and work commitments. Comprehensive course materials covering the key modules and ongoing tutor support are provided.

- How to be an effective coach
- The Wheel of Life
- Values and beliefs
- Verbal/non verbal communication
- Setting individual goals and creating action plans
- Questioning within the GROW coaching structure
- Giving difficult and negative feedback effectively
- Facilitated coaching practice
How will the course be assessed?
In order to gain the Award in Professional Coaching the following assignment must be completed:
- Plan, organize and carry out a coaching session and complete a reflective case study.
The Open College Network (OCN) is the awarding body, which accredits the Award in Professional Coaching. On successful completion of the Award you can progress onto the Certificate and Diploma programme.
