Diploma in Professional Coaching

 

OCN North East Region logo blue text with a yellow swishThe Diploma in Professional Coaching is accredited by the Open College Network (OCN) and delivered through the Advance School of Coaching. It builds on the concepts covered by the Award and Certificate in Professional Coaching. Individuals may access the programme on successful completion of the Award and Certificate. Alternatively those with experience of coaching or management may gain direct entry.

 

Who is it for?

 

This course is aimed at line and middle managers where coaching forms a significant part of their role and who wish to gain in-depth coaching skills to improve team and organisational performance. It is also aimed at individuals who want to set up their own coaching practice, as well as independent consultants who wish to add performance coaching to their portfolio.

Course Overview

 

This course will equip you with a wide range of tools to develop individual performance in personal coaching, or within organisations. It will provide you with tools and techniques including Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and Emotional Intelligence, which takes coaching to a new level.
The Diploma in Professional Coaching takes on average 9 months to complete. It comprises 4 full day workshops at Glasgow Caledonian University, as well as a distance-learning component. This provides flexibility to organise your learning schedule around personal and work commitments. Comprehensive course materials, covering ten key modules and ongoing tutor support are provided. A personal coaching session will also be provided at the start of the course, this will enable you to set personal and professional goals.

  • Communication and influencing skills
  • Knowledge of Emotional Intelligence and how it affects behaviour
  • Exploring personality styles and how people behave
  • Transactional Analysis and ego states
  • Ethics in coaching
  • Coaching models including the GROW model and the Coaching cycle
  • Effective feedback to improve performance
  • Using NLP techniques to increase your personal impact
  • How to use coaching to develop creativity in the work-place
  • How to overcome resistance and limiting beliefs
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Listening and questioning skills
  • Practical coaching sessions

 

How will the course be assessed?

 

The Open College Network (OCN) is the awarding body, which accredits the Diploma in Professional Coaching. In order to gain the Diploma a portfolio of work must be submitted including:

  • Completion of questions and answers on the course modules
  • An essay on a module of your choice (1,500 words approximately)
  • An reflective case-study on a coaching client
  • 50 hours coaching practice (30 hours direct coaching and 20 hours preparation, research and evaluation)
